Frankie & the Pool Boys
DJ Sid Presley welcomes the triumphant return of THE OUTTA SITES to Winters Tavern on Saturday 3/19!
The Outta Sites - In your mind’s eye, picture being in Hollywood, 1964-65, nearly any night of the week. The period just before the riots on Sunset Strip, before the Summer of Love. A hot, smoky nightclub full of sharply dressed beautiful people – studio moguls, TV stars, young starlets before they became award-winning actresses, the usual hangers-on.
And up on the stage, four guys in sharkskin suits – or is it natty blazers and turtlenecks? –wailing away for hours and delighting clubgoers with a slice of the British Invasion …
No, wait – that’s 2013. At a club near you, wherever you are. (Smoke optional. Maybe even illegal, depending on where you live.)
It’s The Outta Sites – three guys and one gal from Los Angeles whose thrilling new debut album, Shake All Night with The Outta Sites, conjures the spirit (and hooks) of The Dave Clark Five and maybe The Oneders (The Wonders) from That Thing You Do. A brash, dynamic, swinging, infectious sound. One potential hit after another: “Shake All Night,” “One Track Mind,” “Jezebel,” “What a Girl Can’t Do,” “Is It True,” “Martian Jive,” and on and on through a 14-song workout. Groovy grooves and beaty beats.
Half a century later, it’s the now sound all over again. It’s what’s happening!
ALSO FEATURING...
Frankie & The Pool Boys - surf band, party band. There's five of them, they all play in other bands that you might have heard of (The Surf Coasters, The TomorrowMen, the Deadbeats, Meshugga Beach Party, Pollo Del Mar, The Gregors) if you are familiar with the tiny cult that is instro-mental surf music. They sure know about you– you dance to the surf beat, you dig tunes without all those dumb lyrics and you're always prepared to have a good time.
So, who are “Frankie & the Pool Boys” really? Just a bunch of teenage idiots without a care in the world. They have fake I.D.s, day jobs cleaning your pool, and a night shift parking cars, fake I.D.s. They’ve got a ‘72 Mustang (w/ 8-Track) that will be rolling any day now, a date with your daughter next Friday and big, big plans for the future.
The Low Humbles, Oakland, CA - lineage: current/former members of ogres, barbary coasters, pre-legendary, hi-fives
These unloveable no-counts, failures with girls and socialization skills, sing and holler their woes for all to hear through perilous melody and head bobbing raves.
Rick, Steve and Richie make up this dusty trio of outcasts, armed with gear nobody wanted and songs rejected from every last one of your favourite childhood Scooby Doo episodes.
